THAT N1 BILLION “DONATION” TO PDP BY GOVERNORS OF FOUR NORTHERN STATES FOR BAMANGA TUKUR’S BOOK LAUNCH IS THE HEIGHT OF EXECUTIVE IRRESPONSIBILITY

Few days ago, we read that PDP mandated all Governors in the PDP-controlled states contribute to the biography-book launch of its Chairman Alhaji Bamanga Tukur. We also read that most of the Governors declined to attend the book launch, let alone comply, but sent Governor Shema of Katsina State to represent them. However, it has emerged that the Governors of Gombe, Bauchi, Adamawa and Taraba States contributed the princely sums of N250m each, totaling N1billion to the “cause”, which we learn is to raise funds for a “broke” party. And this is their way of raising funds. These 4 states are from a region whose governors spend more time talking about meager allocation they get from national kitty and their individual ambitions to contest 2015 election, than actually governing. Yet, could contribute this h
uge amounts to the biography book of 77 year old hack (or is it young hack?).
If this is not share irresponsibility, and misplacement of priority, I don’t know what is. What is so special about Bamanga’s biography that cannot be googled by Nigerians in this age of ICT? Of what educational value is the book to the poor children of the 4 states that their states are dolling out these huge amounts? For this to come out from a sub-region where one of the contributing states recorded only 17 out of 18,000 candidates who made University requirement-qualification grades in SSCE is really criminal. If this is not a case for EFCC-ICPC to pounce on, then they should both be scrapped. And if it is “pressure from above” as we were told, what is Mr. President doing to stop his party from robbing states whose Governors are nincompoops? Or does that feature well in the transformation agenda?
